Press Release

GIUSEPPE LO SCHIAVO'S "WINDOWSCAPES"

ONLINE EXHIBITION

SEPTEMBER 18 - OCTOBER 31, 2024

Danziger Gallery is pleased to announce our representation of the Italian artist Giuseppe Lo Schiavo. An architect by training, he employs a variety of cutting-edge technological and computer-based tools to create images that blur the line between the real and the virtual. Lo Schiavo creates and designs all the elements in his images within a virtual space, using advanced 3D software that simulates physical reality. He refers to this process as “Synthetic Photography”. Lo Schiavo uses his own computer-based photography technique, surpassing what any camera available today can achieve in terms of resolution and details. To achieve the massive resolution of his final artworks, the artist uses the combined power of over 200 connected cloud computers.

In the series 'Windowscapes,' which we will be showcasing at UNTITLED Miami, the water, the window, and the objects on the windowsills were meticulously designed to create hyperrealistic simulations of scenes viewed through a window. The challenge of this series was to create artworks that push the boundaries of resolution and challenge the medium of photography itself, immersing visitors in a novel experience that blends visual and emotional connection.

“Art, as a reinvention tool, has the power to transform and subvert reality.” says Lo Schiavo. “Thus further enhancing its inherent nature as a fluid and subjective experience influenced by cultural and biological factors. Challenging the boundaries of traditional photography, I strive to take pictures of memories rather than places.”

Giuseppe Lo Schiavo’s art career extends beyond the conventional, evidenced by being the first artist in residence at The University College London’s Microbiology lab in 2020 and winning the 2021 European BioArt Challenge by the museum MUSE. Recognized as a prototype of the modern-day artist by Domus in 2023, Giuseppe Lo Schiavo aims to introduce a transformative and innovative approach to art, exploring synthetic realities and new emerging aesthetics with echoes of ancient art and culture.  His work is in the collections of Voorlinden Museum in the Netherlands, Bulgari Foundation, the Museum of Science of Trento in Italy, National Gallery of Cosenza in Italy, Palazzo Monti in Italy, Tema Bank art collection, Perna Foundation among many others.
